These are some of the cards I've made today! Enjoy!

Over the River and Through the Wood
We journeyed to the "old homeplace" for Thanksgiving. The "old homeplace" is the house my brother in law, husband of my much, much older sister, grew up in. It's a typical southern clapboard house with porches all around, and doors upon doors leading to other rooms. It's comfy, cozy and filled with memories. A perfect place to gather to give thanks.

So we journeyed. Rick, Patrick and I, drove through southern Alabama on little back roads and highways. Through little towns long forgotten by most people, but inhabited by families whose ancestors founded them years ago. It was a journey where you see old gas stations, mom & pop cafes and little general stores where communities gathered. They've all been long closed up, consumed by the Wal marts and Winn Dixies of our generation.
Back into the woods we went, to the 40 acre farm that was once hundreds of acres before it was divided amongst relatives, who now live on their own homeplaces within the old homeplace land. It's a peaceful, relaxing place. A home that's a perfect place to gather and give thanks.
Susie cooked a most delicious meal, enough food for seven armies and a few stragglers too. I didn't do much, I just went behind her, picking up every utensil and bowl she'd put down, washing it before she even realized it was gone. It drove her nuts a few times, but it kept me entertained. It's hard to sit back and let some one else do it all, after doing it all these years. When it was all said and done everyone was stuffed, and happy.
Because it was an old, old house, we had to make do. It wasn't the warmest day and the coldness seeped in through the clapboard walls. But the warmth of our love and the fun we were having saved the day. It made us bundle up and layer on a bit more and of course, it made for nice snuggling at night. Poor Patrick, good thing he brought his big blanket.
Kevin and Erica were missed. They stayed in Tallahassee and Erica's family came up to see their new place. I'm sure they had fun too. Kevin said it just didn't seem right not being with us for Thanksgiving. But I'm sure he had fun too.
The Packers won their game against Detroit. There really shouldn't have been any doubt about that happening, but they are my team, so I know how sometimes they blow games everyone knows they should win.
So now we're back home. In our little house, surrounded by our own trees, where life is good, we have much and need little. We are blessed much more than we deserve.

Made it Through the Week!
I hope you didn't think that little brown spider did me in! I just haven't had much to blog about. I've been tired, worn down. I think it was the meds doing their stuff. Chasing all that nasty spider stuff away.
So let's see. I stayed home half of Monday, all of Tuesday, and all of Wednesday. They were pretty uneventful days, except my middle son, Kevin was here Monday. He'd come home for the Dallas/Green Bay game. His friend, John, is a Dallas fan, so they always get together to watch the game. We were going to go over to John's also to watch, but that's the day I felt super yucky. So it was nice to see Kevin on Monday.
Tuesday, I was a lazy bum. Never left the sofa unless I had too. Thank goodness for Facebook and friends. I stayed busy all day catching up with everyone. I tried to read the book for my Blackberry. But I kept falling asleep. I may never learn how to use that thing. As Patrick says, "mom that phone is wasted on you". Well, WHO talked me into that phone, Patrick??
Wednesday I was feeling creative so I played in the scraproom. I heat embossed some snowflakes on Tim Holtz' acrylic pieces. WAY TOO COOL! I tried to take pictures, but they weren't working out. I'll work on that tomorrow again.
My cards from the Hilltop swap came on Thursday also. OMG! What a talented group of ladies! We had to make 12 cards to swap and we got 12 different cards back. I did two groups, so I got 24 cards. WOOHOOOO! I will be proud to send these cards out this year. I think we should keep the card swap going. Next month we can just sign up to do whatever kind of card we want. Then for February, we could do Valentines!!!
So Thursday and Friday were back to work days. Nothing unusual there. Now it's the weekend, no plans there really either. It's supposed to be a rainy Saturday, so maybe I can catch up on SLEEP! LOL!

Some Days it Just Bites
So just when I think life is going to slow down a bit and I can relax, catch my breath and cuddle with my hubby, reality bites. This reality came by way of a little brown spider. A poisonous one, one that bites.
I first noticed on Friday, an extremely itchy feeling from my mid thighs to my belly button. No rash, no reason for itchy, so I went in search of Benedryl. Oh did I mention I was on my way to the football field when I noticed this? Yes, this was the evening of Senior night. The night I announced all of our seniors before their last football game.
The benedryl seemed to help, that or my nerves calmed down a bit after the announcing part was over. I didn't think much of it, except it seemed like every once in a while, when I moved, it felt like I had a rash or raw spot right on my jeans seam, inner thigh.
That evening when I got home, I checked and sure enough it looked a little red there. Oh well, I figured I was just getting tooo fat for my jeans, they rubbed me a bit wrong, etc, etc.
The next day was the cardmaking/pampered chef extravaganza. We were too busy all day having fun for me to really notice, but again every once in a while, if I moved just right and that seam rubbed my leg wrong, it hurt! Again, when I undressed for bed, it looked a bit red.
On to Sunday, the day of rest. I got up and was ready to get in the shower when I noticed a much redder spot. A spot with a bit of a pimplish head on it. Whoa, better keep an eye on that I thought. The hubby has been bit a couple of times by spiders when he works in the yard, so I knew this kinda, mighta looked like a bite.
All day long I felt lousy, headachy, bone achy, tired, nauseous, so I attributed it to to much party the day before and that I'm getting to old to do that 13 hours in a row. (Nah!) But by evening, the little pimplish red spot had turned a bit dark. So I showed it to the hubby and he concurred, it looked like a spider bite and I may want to go to the Doctor in the morning. Hmmmm, he dispenses that advice well, if only HE'D follow it!
So off I go yesterday to the doctor. Where he confirmed that yes, I'd had a visit from a little brown spider who's usually rather reclusive. For that I got a shot in the butt, which hurt worse than the bite, a round of antibiotics and 3 days off work.
So this morning I'm off to Walmart real quick for some movies and snacks. I'd had my fill of daytime tv last week and there's a few flicks out there I want to see. I'll lead the life of leisure for a few days and wonder if I will ever be able to work a full work week again.

Some Kinda Saturday!
We had a great time making cards and Pampered Chefing. It made for a long day, but a very, very fun day! Gathering with the girls is always such a great time. Throw in food and cardmaking, can life be any better?
About 15 of us gathered to make 5 different cards. You could make as many or as few as you wanted. I made 10 total, two of each design. I didn't take pictures yet, I have to ask Sharon, the designer if it's okay to post her cards here. I'm sure it is, but I want to ask.
Monday night I was supposed to have my Pampered Chef party, but an impending hurricane postponed that. Ann was gracious enough to let me hold the party at her house, right after the card making, since most of the people were attending both. Ann has the biggest heart and was really sweet to do that. We had a great turnout for that and thanks also to some cyber friends who ordered, I had a pretty good party. Ann had a PC party last week, and she figured out that if we combined shows, we'd actually get more free stuff to split between the two of us. So I think we are doing that! If you need something, here's the link to Lisa's Website.
I had seen this awfully cute veggie tray done in Taste of Home magazine a few years ago and have always wanted to try to make it. It was super easy really. The hardest part was gathering all the stuff for it. Here's my version.
The fencing and styrofoam board came from JoAnn's. The scarecrow I had from an arrangement I made a few years ago. I used raw brussel sprouts to simulate cabbage. The "corn" is canned, I found mine at Publix, be careful, it comes cut or whole, make sure you get the whole corn. If you want to see the original it's here . And it tells you how to do it!
Today, we're resting. I have a bit of a headache. If I feel better later we're heading to a friends to watch the Packer/Cowgirl game. Otherwise, I'll be cheering the Pack on from the recliner. Go Pack Go!

Thank a Vet
As you lay your head on your pillow tonite and go restfully asleep.
Take a moment to bless a vet,
Your watch he'll faithfully keep.
He doesn't ask your politics, or whether we should fight a war.
He goes where ever he is asked, no matter what's in store.
He'll leave his family to stand this watch,
A sacrifice they make.
While we enjoy our many freedoms, forgetting his life's at stake.
Some come home and rejoin us.
Some never leave their watch.
But Bless all vets every night.
Ask him to take their watch.

Well, It's Wednesday!
Surprisingly the sun is out! Well in and out. But it's the first time I've seen it since Saturday. Today is by far the breeziest day we've had. I think it's that cooler North wind moving in!
Last night with the girls was so much fun! There were just the 3 of us, as Debbie couldn't make it. But we made it a good time. We spent 3 hours, eating, drinking, talking and laughing!
I got the biggest kick out of a family sitting behind us. It was a couple, their 10 yr oldish son, and a set of grandparents, I assume. The grandparents looked to be in their 70's. Grandma had on a little round pillbox hat, looking very proper and a bit out of place in the waterside establishment we were in.
They were eating dinner and I don't know what Grandpa said to Grandma, but she looked at him and said, "If you ever say that to me again, I'll knock you on your ass!" I about spit my food out. I was trying not to laugh, Linda and Barbie wanted to know what was going on, they could tell something had me in stitches. Grandpa must have been threatened, because I don't think he said another word all night!
We ate indoors, well, not exactly indoors but they had the weather doors up. Then we moved out to the deck for an after dinner drink. Even tho it was misting, it was beautiful outside. So much fun and laughter!
Today, I'm off to get a bunch of veggies so I can duplicate this for the party Saturday.

A new Farmer's Market opened a few months ago and I've been wanting to check it out. So off I go! I'm also meeting Ann & Sharon for lunch. They both have to work today. I work tomorrow and Friday then it's the weekend off! Saturday is the Christmas Card making Blitz at Ann's house, followed by my Pampered Chef Party which is going to be at Ann's house, thanks Ann! Since most of the people coming to the card blitz originaly were coming to the PC party. It will be a most fun day! Stop by if you are in the neighborhood. If not, make the trip, it will be fun I guarentee!

All is Well Post Ida
We awoke this morning to a misty morning. It's a bit cooler and very damp, but okay considering what could have been. I think I'll spend the day cleaning my bedroom, and I'm sneezing already just thinking about all the dust!
Then I'll reward myself with a few hours scrapping, then dinner with friends down on the bay. And to think I still have one more day off after this! For that, I love Ida!

It's Raining, It's Pouring!
is quite the understatement. Right now it is thunderous on the roof. Roaring down, drowning out the TV. Yes, our uninvited guest, Ida, has come to visit.
The storm warnings this morning said she would arrive about 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Later in the day, that went to between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.. Then our six o'clock news said Midnite tonite. But she's here!
She's been arriving all day with rain and breezes. More rain, more breezes. Now thunderous rain and it's dark so I can't really see the breezes. Welcome Ida.
I had looked forward to my Pampered Chef party tonite, and I DIDN'T invite Ida. She came anyway, so everyone refused to come while she was here.
I was looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow morning, with Ida's raindrops lulling back to a late morning sleep. No, she decided to come ashore tonite, so I'll lay awake worrying.
She did give me two extra days off this week. Thank you for that. But you could have indicated earlier in the week that you were arriving, so I could leave town for some place fun!
To my friends in the panhandle, stay safe. To my friends elsewhere, invite Ida to visit. Maybe she won't go where she's invited.

PICTURES
Kind of a week in review, only in pictures. A week ago tonite, the fair was still open, my life was crazy. Now I'm pretty much relaxed, and able to do some fun things for me. So here's the pictures!
My new cabinet. I spent most of this evening rearranging, cleaning and purging, moving my new cabinet into the scrap room. It's an old wood file cabinet. When I found it it was missing on side. Our carpentry students rebuilt the side to match and then refinished the entire cabinet. I just love it!
Roast Beef Sunday! I guess if you have to eat on the run, this is one way to do that. Sliced Roast Beef, topped with mashed potatoes, gravy, grated cheddar cheese and a cherry tomato. It was yummy, but I think if I made it with my beef, gravy and taters, it would be yummier!
The biggest part of my week for the past 14 weeks has been watching hubby coach. Here he's with his JV defensive line. He's so serious about it, but so patient. There are times I just know he wants to explode and read them the riot act. But he doesn't, he just patiently explains what they need to do next time. I just love him!
And finally our entries in the fair. Every year we see improvement in the quality and quantity of entries. I can't wait for next year!

It makes me happy
Laffy Taffy, that is. I think it's my favorite Halloween candy. Banana Laffy Taffy to be specific. I think if I were allowed just one sweet, Banana Laffy taffy would be it.
During my brief stint in college, a few years back, I could live on Banana Laffy Taffy. We brought a bag to class every night. We weren't beer drinkers, smokin' tokers, no, we ate banana Laffy Taffy.
Tonite the boys and coaches got bags of candy after the game. Like Trick or Treat bags. Hubby gave me his Banana Laffy Taffy. I will love him forever for that.
and just for the record. I hate carnival rides too. But I was trying to be brave.

Took a Short Break, I'm Going to Be a Better Blogger!
The fair came to an end on Sunday. Eleven days of fun all over with. The end of the fair always brings chilly weather, this year the beginning of the fair brought it. I hope it's here to stay.
Our little scrappy booth was a hit. This year we did a People's Choice award, it was a hit with the crowd. Most everyone said the entries were so good that it was hard to choose just one to vote for. The judges thought the same thing too. I was glad to see that the People's Choice Award went to a non ribbon winner. Judging was so close!
I even got the hubby to go to the fair with me Saturday night. We went for dinner and stayed 5 hours! My friend, Ann had her hubby out there too. So we walked around awhile, ate some, watched the concert (Joe Nichols) some, watched the cattle auction some, and rode rides. I rode the giant ferris wheel twice! Once with Rick, where we rode backwards of the rotation. I didn't like that at all! I'm not fond of heights as it is, and backwards I didn't like at all. But he let me dig my nails into his arm and leg, so it was fine. When Ann & I rode I made sure I was on the right side of the car. I even took pictures!
I know, pictures, where are they? I will get them up I promise! I like to blog in the morning, but since I have to be at work at 7 a.m. this year, it's hard to blog in the morning. So I will put the pictures up tomorrow afternoon when I get home. Lots of pictures. The booth, the winners, the food, the view from the top.
In a word, work has been hell. When the state changed our curriculum, they put no thought in to how it would affect everything else that has to happen in a school. No thought about schedule changes, attendance, fees, etc. But you don't want to hear about that do you. I know, I obsess about it. I let it get to me. I shouldn't, but I do. So today, when the system went down, I took it as a cue to go home and I left 3 hours early. Got some shopping done, cooked dinner, took a nap, and had a relaxing evening. Even scrapped a bit!
So I've been in a bit of a funk. But I'm getting out of it. I despise funky moods. What brings them on? Why is it hard to get out of them? Some days it just seems like everything is wrong. Even my football teams aren't winning. What do you do when you get in a funk? I did eat half a bag of potato chips and dip for dinner last night. Yep, just that. It was good too.
So, I'll be a better blogger, I'll post pictures, will you come back?
